A little about Urban Dreams...
In the spring of 2002, Ternisa Mallette seriously contemplated an idea of forming a new dance team at MSU. It would be original in technique, organizational structure, and overall appearance. She envisioned a hip-hop, co-educational dance team to represent the urban community. These were one founder’s dreams and later, with the help of founders Kyneth Atwater, Cheryl Neal, and LaTonya Garth, she appropriately named it Urban Dreams.
From Urban Dreams, Cheryl then creatively constructed a very fitting organizational motto stating that we were “United Races Blended As Notorious Dancers Representing
Each Aspect of Modern & Street!” The motto accurately expressed our value of diversity, quality of dancing, and dancing style. Cheryl soon designed the first Urban Dreams logo and Ternisa and Kyneth got started on the first constitution.
During the summer of 2002, Marcelle Bryant and Dominique Amos became founders, assisting in drafting the constitution’s final copy, registering the organization, and selecting our first advisor, LeTarsha Hurst. Assisted by Marcelle, LaTonya quickly started choreographing the very first try-out routine for prospective members. LeTarsha Hurst placed the final signature on our Registered Student Organization application in July and Urban Dreams became official in August of 2002.
